The Chartered Risk Management Institute of Nigeria marked its Silver Jubilee with the 25th Annual International Conference in Lagos, under the theme "The Resilience Edge." Over two days, regulators, industry leaders, risk professionals and dignitaries from across Africa gathered to explore how organisations turn uncertainty into advantage — capped by a gala, awards and the induction of new Fellows and members.
The Resilience Edge — CRMI's Silver Jubilee
“The Resilience Edge”

Opening Address — "The Resilience Edge"
President and Chairman of Council Mr. Kevin Ugwuoke, FCRM welcomed delegates and set the tone around resilience in an environment shaped by economic uncertainty, cyber threats, climate risk, technological disruption and the rise of artificial intelligence.
"Resilience is the ability to make sound decisions under pressure, to keep essential activities working, to adapt as circumstances change, and to recover, while continuing to create value. That is the edge."
He renewed CRMI's call for mandatory risk-management reporting by organisations registered in Nigeria and for dedicated risk functions across ministries, departments and agencies — a vision of risk management that reaches "every boardroom and every small business," not the preserve of banks alone. He cited the Institute's chartered status under Act No. 39 of 2022, its early contribution to credit bureaus in Nigeria, and the Executive Risk Management Certification run with Lagos Business School.

25 years of CRMI
Founded in 2000 as the Risk Management Association of Nigeria (RIMAN) and chartered by Act No. 39 of 2022, CRMI is the professional home for risk-management practitioners in Nigeria. Over 25 years it has set the national standard through the Chartered Risk Manager (CRM) designation and Mandatory Continuing Professional Education.
Its milestones span partnerships with the Central Bank of Nigeria on credit bureaus, the CRM certification with the CIBN, a Post-Graduate Diploma with UNILAG (2016), and risk-governance certification with the DCRO Institute (2024). CRMI is a pioneer member of the Federation of African Risk Management Associations (FARMA) and a member of IFRIMA, and in 2025 launched its Women in Risk Management Programme and annual Risk Outlook Report.

Awards, Gala & a celebration of culture
The Silver Jubilee closed with a gala and awards night that celebrated 25 years of impact — the induction of new Fellows and members, recognition of partners and sponsors, and vibrant cultural performances. Guests joined the cutting of the anniversary cake, themed "Risk Management for a Sustainable Future."
