Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions members ask most.

From CRM exam requirements to certification timelines, registration, and exam structure — everything you need to know.

Membership

Joining, tiers, dues & upgrades

01

How do I become a CRMI member?

Apply online in a few minutes:

  1. Go to the membership page and choose the tier that fits where you are today.
  2. Click Apply, create your account, and complete your profile.
  3. Pay your dues via Paystack or bank transfer.

Your application is reviewed by the secretariat; once approved you receive a membership number and full access to the member portal.

02

What membership tiers are available?

Individuals join at one of three tiers and progress towards the chartered designation:

  • Student — for those studying towards a risk-management career.
  • Affiliate — for practitioners early in their risk career.
  • Senior Affiliate — for experienced professionals.

From there members work towards the CRM (Chartered Risk Manager) and FCRM (Fellow) designations. Organisations can also join through corporate membership.

03

How much are the annual dues and when do they renew?

Annual dues depend on your grade and are renewable each January. The current amounts are published on the fees & payment page. Keeping your dues current keeps your membership in good standing and unlocks discounted exam and training rates.

04

How do I upgrade to CRM or FCRM?

Once you meet the criteria, apply for conferment from the member portal. See the conferment page for the CRM and FCRM requirements, or the Conferment section below.

05

Can my organisation join as a corporate member?

Yes. Corporate membership lets you build risk capability across your firm — nominate staff, access group training, and more. See the corporate membership page or send a brief through contact us.

Certification

CRM requirements & timelines

06

What are the requirements for CRM certification?

You'll need to:

  • Pass CRM Exam Stage I
  • Pass CRM Exam Stage II
  • Pass CRM Exam Stage III
  • Provide evidence of a minimum of 2 years professional experience

CRMI accepts a detailed CV with supporting documents as evidence of work experience. Professionals in non-risk-management positions may need to demonstrate more than 2 years' experience depending on the industry, role, and position held.

Note: CRMI policy does not consider industrial attachments and undergraduate internships as work experience. However, course facilitation, academic lecturing, and research in areas relevant to risk management will be considered.

07

How long do I have to complete the certification?

You have a two-year window between stages:

  • Pass Stage II within 2 years of passing Stage I.
  • Pass Stage III within 2 years of passing Stage II.

Pace yourself so you complete all stages within these windows; exceeding them means the relevant stages must be re-registered.

Examinations

Registration

How to register & sit

12

How do I register for the CRM exams?

Register online through the member portal:

  1. Sign in (or apply for membership first).
  2. Open the Exams tab and pick the modules you intend to sit.
  3. Pay via Paystack or bank transfer, then download your docket once registration confirms.

Registration opens roughly 6 weeks before each diet and closes ahead of the exam start date.

13

Where do I sit the exam?

Anywhere. The CRM examination is delivered online with live proctored invigilation, so you can sit from any location in Nigeria and beyond — there are no physical examination centres.

You'll need a quiet, private space, a stable internet connection, and a working webcam for ID verification and proctoring.

14

What are the registration deadlines?

For each diet:

  • Registration opens — about 6 weeks before the exam start.
  • Registration closes — ahead of the exam start date.
  • Results released — within about 4 weeks of the exam ending.

Exact dates for the current diet appear on the examinations page and in the member portal.

Training & CPE

Courses & your CPE obligation

15

How many CPE hours do I need each year?

CRMI members — Affiliate, Senior Affiliate, CRM and FCRM — must accumulate at least 24 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours each year.

Participation in CRMI training programmes and the Annual Conference automatically credits your CPE record. CPE hours earned through external professional activities should be submitted through the member portal and are reviewed by the Education Committee.

16

What training does CRMI offer?

CRMI runs live, instructor-led courses and workshops across operational, credit, market and enterprise risk — held at a venue or delivered live online — plus the Annual Conference. Browse the catalogue and calendar on the training page.

17

How are my CPE hours credited?

CRMI training and the Annual Conference are credited to your CPE log automatically after the event, provided your membership number is on the registration. For external activities, submit them in the member portal for review by the Education Committee.

18

Can non-members attend training?

Yes — courses are open to non-members at the listed non-member price. Members enjoy a discounted rate and automatic CPE credit.

Payments & Accounts

Dues, invoices & receipts

19

How can I pay?

You can pay:

  • Online with Paystack — card, bank, USSD or QR — directly from the member portal.
  • By bank transfer — using the CRMI account details shown at checkout; use your name and membership number as the transfer reference, then upload your payment evidence.

Online payments are confirmed instantly; bank transfers are confirmed once the accounts team verifies them.

20

How do I get an invoice or receipt?

Invoices are raised against your account for dues and other charges and are available in the member portal under Invoices. A receipt is issued automatically once a payment is confirmed. For account queries, email [email protected].

21

Can I get a refund?

Refund requests are handled case by case by the accounts team. Contact [email protected] with your payment reference and the reason for the request.

Conferment & Designations

23

How do I apply for conferment?

When conferment applications are open, apply from the member portal and pay the conferment fee. Your application is reviewed by the secretariat, and successful candidates are conferred at the induction ceremony. Current status and fees are on the conferment page.
